During his visit to China, President Donald Trump showed Chinese President Xi Jinping a video of his granddaughter Arabella Kushner, the six-year-old daughter of Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, showing off her Mandarin-speaking skills.
Trump reportedly used a tablet to show Arabella singing in Mandarin and reciting poetry from the ancient verses of Confucius.
Xi said Arabella deserved an “A+” for the performance. He also said she is considered a “child star” in his country and hopes she will visit soon.
"As a little ambassador of Chinese-American friendship, Arabella has already received the love of a vast number of Chinese people," Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said during a press briefing Thursday. "This kind of special arrangement is actually very sweet and warm-hearted. We believe that this has helped to further bring closer the affection and distance between the Chinese and American people."
Last year, Arabella went viral in China after Ivanka Trump posted a video of her speaking Mandarin and reciting poetry while wearing traditional Chinese clothing to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
"Arabella wanted to have a pre-bedtime #ChineseNewYear party this past Sunday evening. She got all dressed up and performed songs and poems for Jared, Joseph and me. It was pretty adorable #yearofthemonkey #happyChineseNewYear," Ivanka wrote on Instagram.
