Country Star Jessie James Decker on Why She Stands for the Anthem
Country singer and reality television star Jessie James Decker recently weighed in on the debate over the national anthem in a heartfelt Instagram post.
Decker, who is married to Tennessee Titans wide receiver Eric Decker, posted a video of her singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at a football game, saying performing the song is one of her favorite things to do.
"I love our country so much. And we should all love and respect each other because this is the greatest country in the world. I see the love. I see the unity in all walks of life on a daily basis and It makes me so proud to be an American," Decker wrote.
On "Fox & Friends," Decker explained that she comes from a military family, as her father is a general in the United States Air Force and her grandfather and uncles also served.
She said the anthem makes her think of them and all the brave men and women who serve and their families, and that's why she stands when it's played.
Decker told a touching story about how her grandfather would ask her to sing the anthem every time he saw her, but he would ask her to turn the other way while she sang so she didn't see him weeping.
"As soon as he was done, he'd wipe his tears and pat me on the back and go, 'Thanks, baby,' and then move on," Decker said. "And that was it. He just wanted a good cry and to just feel those emotions."
