President Donald Trump is slamming the "fake news" media after NBC News reported that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was on the verge of resigning from his post and called Trump a "moron."

Tillerson on Wednesday denied that he threatened to resign, but declined to answer if he called Trump a "moron."

In a briefing Wednesday afternoon, State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert stated that Tillerson did not use the word "moron"

The NBC News reporter who wrote the story, however, has doubled down and said that Tillerson didn't just call Trump a "moron," but a "f***ing moron."

On "Outnumbered," Gillian Turner said she is inclined to believe the report is untrue because calling the president a moron is a fireable offense.

"Politics aside, if the secretary of state uses terms like that to talk about the president in earshot of people that work for him, this is not something that he would survive," Turner said. "It is probably a somewhat made-up story."

Rachel Campos-Duffy said there's no doubt that the mainstream media is trying to stir division in the Trump administration, and this report could be another attempt at that.

She acknowledged that Trump and Tillerson have certainly had differences of opinion on policy and staffing, but the media could be exaggerating that to feed the narrative of a "chaotic" administration.
