Hurricane Maria has reached the island of Dominica and is making its way towards Puerto Rico.

Prime Minister of Dominica Roosevelt Skerrit posted a urgent message on his Facebook page on Tuesday, asking for disaster relief help.

"We have lost all what money can buy and replace," Skerrit wrote.

Almost every roof has been ripped off including his own, Skerrit said, and landslides and torrential rains remain a potentially deadly threat.

The devastation is already "mind-boggling" the prime minister said. The worst is expected tonight over the Caribbean.

Skerrit said he and others will emerge Wednesday morning to look for those injured and trapped and determine what is needed.

"We will need help, my friend, we will need help of all kinds."
