President Trump called Gov. Eddie Calvo (R) to reassure him that the full power of the federal government is in his corner.
"We are with you 1000 percent," Trump said. "I wanted to call you and say hello."
Calvo said that as the governor of Guam and as an American he "has never felt so confident" in his territory's security.
"I'm glad you're holding the helm sir," Calvo said. "We need a president like you."
"They should've had me eight years ago," Trump said, regarding threats against the homeland from North Korea. "Frankly, you could've said that for the last three presidents."
Trump joked that after North Korean tensions slacken, Guam will see a "tenfold" increase in tourism.
"It looks like a beautiful place," he said, inviting Calvo to visit the White House the next time he is in the Lower 48.
Calvo joined Trump in blasting obstructionism in Washington and likewise invited Trump to visit him in Hagatna.
"I'll talk to you any time you need," Trump said.
