Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) said HUD Secretary Dr. Ben Carson does not care about public housing residents, remarking that she would "take his a** apart" if he proves so.
Waters was speaking at the Essence festival in New Orleans, according to The Hill.
She said that Carson, who grew up in an impoverished part of Detroit, "doesn't know the difference between an immigrant and a slave."
Waters was apparently referring to Carson's first speech as the head of Housing and Urban Development, where he used the term "immigrant" to describe slaves arriving in the U.S.
"He doesn’t care about people in public housing. He believes that if you are poor, it is your own fault," Waters said of the former Johns Hopkins neurosurgeon.
Waters said that if Carson were to appear before the House Financial Services Committee on which she sits, she would tell him that he won't "get a pass."
"If he thinks I am going to give him a pass, I'm going to take his a** apart," Waters said, before turning her attention to the president, according to Essence.
Waters said that she is "taking the gloves off" in her continual criticisms of President Trump, reiterating her hope of impeaching the New York Republican.
“Trump was just so outrageous, so disrespectful, such a bully and dangerous for this country," she told the New York Times.
