Dr. Alvarez: NYC Hospital Shooting Is a 'Wake-Up Call'
Dr. Manny Alvarez said the deadly shooting at a New York City hospital is a "wake-up call" that we must have better security at our medical facilities.
On "Your World" today, Alvarez said the sad truth is that hospitals are not safe.
"We don't have any good way of preventing crime," Alvarez said. "This is a wake-up call."
"I hope that the mayor of New York and the leaders of the city of New York look at this and say, 'Are we doing a good job in monitoring the prevention of crime in our hospitals?'" Alvarez said. "Because this is a perfect example."
He said this incident is certainly tragic, but it appears to be a disgruntled former employee carrying out a workplace shooting.
He said it could be much worse if it was instead a targeted terror attack that took advantage of lax security procedures.
"We have to look at the safety of our hospitals, because things like this could happen," Alvarez said.
