Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) said he is in disbelief over the polarized political environment these days.

"I cannot believe this environment here that you have to be on one side or the other," Manchin told Neil Cavuto on "Your World."

President Trump lashed out on Twitter at the recently engaged co-hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough of MSNBC's "Morning Joe" on Thursday.

Trump's comments are "uncalled for," Manchin said.

"If I wanted to move forward and get something accomplished, I couldn't be drawn down into that element, and I never did let myself go there," said the senator.

"Why we allow this discourse I don't know, and why we play off of it and feed off of it 24/7, that's not something I'm going to partake in."

"I happen to have a 'D' by my name," Manchin said, but noted that he has friends on both sides of the aisle.

He added with a chuckle that they got a lot done in West Virginia, whether it means working with Democrats or Republicans.

"We're all West Virginians. We're all Americans."
