CNN, MSNBC Cover Russia Investigation Instead of Trump Rally
President Trump held a big, campaign-style rally in Iowa on Wednesday night, but if you were watching CNN or MSNBC, you didn't see much of it.
Tucker Carlson pointed out that CNN cut away from the rally after just seven minutes to cover Jared Kushner's security clearance and former Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson's claim that Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered cyberattacks on the U.S.
Meantime, MSNBC didn't show Trump's speech at all, instead dedicating more airtime to the alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, Tucker said.
Joe Concha joined Tucker to discuss the networks' fascination with the Russia story and their decision not to show the Trump rally.
Tucker pointed out that CNN and MSNBC talk about Trump a lot, but when they could actually show Trump talking, they cut away.
Concha suggested that might be because an unfiltered Trump speech would not allow for commentary, punditry or speculation.
"Last night was newsworthy to cover, because Trump had not done an interview on cable since May 13, hadn't done one on broadcast news since May 11," Concha said. "Therefore, an unpredictable president and that audience on a non-breaking news night, I think you got to cover that."
Tucker argued that CNN is more concerned with advocacy than journalism, yet they continue to brand themselves as a news outlet.
He said he finds that "dishonest."
