Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) called the Russia probe a "political circus" and said President Trump's enemies are using it as an excuse to attack him.

"Look, this is all a political circus at this point," Cruz told "Fox & Friends." "Democrats and sadly much of the liberal media are using this just as an excuse to attack the president. They want this president to fail."

Cruz, who challenged Trump in the GOP primaries last year, said he thinks the new administration has done well on policies and cabinet appointments.

Cruz said he sees an "amazing divide" between what the media in Washington care about and what voters in his native Texas care about.

The only questions the Texas senator gets asked in Washington are about Russia and attacking President Trump, while meanwhile back home "nobody asks about that." Instead, voters want answers on Obamacare and tax reform.

"People outside of Washington are interested in real policies that are going to produce jobs, raise wages," Cruz related. "They're not interested in the nonsense, in the attack game and the personal destruction that consumes Washington."

The senator hopes Congress will work through its planned August recess to accomplish policy goals.

Cruz' priorities are tax reform, lowering Obamacare premiums, regulation reform, and the Supreme Court, he said.
