On "Fox & Friends" this morning, David Bossie said that President Donald Trump is not under investigation for obstruction of justice or for colluding with Russia.

Many in the media interpreted a recent Trump tweet as confirmation that he is a target of a federal probe being led by special counsel Robert Mueller.

Bossie, who served as Trump's deputy campaign manager, acknowledged that the FBI is investigating whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia during or after the 2016 election.

He insisted that Trump is not and has never been a target in the agency's investigation.

He said the Trump's tweet was in response to a Washington Post story in which unnamed sources said the president was being investigated.

"That's important for the American people to understand," Bossie said. "We have to understand there's no underlying basis for the Trump campaign to have been involved with the Russians. There's no facts, no evidence whatsoever that the president or our team had any coordination with the Russians."

He added that the "ridiculous allegations" of Russian collusion will be proven to be false in the coming months.

Bossie agreed with Trump's claim that it all amounts to a "witch hunt."

He said the problem is that some in the mainstream media and in the government bureaucracy are intent on bringing Trump down.

"These are the folks that want to do damage to this president, want to try and nullify an election," Bossie said. "Really, I'd say they're guilty of what Charles Krauthammer termed the 'Trump derangement syndrome.'"

"We have a problem here in America."
