Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) said President Trump's team is "dancing on the quicksand" of the Washington, D.C. "swamp" every time they engage with the media.

Gingrich said that by offering the press an open briefing every day, the Trump administration allows their media opponents to concentrate on any and all things negative.

He suggested that a White House communications team member go to the briefing room every day, lay out that day's accomplishments and take no questions.

"The more they get sucked into dancing with the elite media, the more they're dancing on the quicksand of the swamp," Gingrich said on "Hannity."

By allowing the media to taint coverage of the administration, they become part of what the American public dislikes about Washington, he said.

"That's not what the country cares about," he said. "I think it is frankly a dangerous detour for them to play these games with the newsmedia," he said.
