Charles Krauthammer said a tweet sent by President Trump earlier Friday reminded him of a mafia boss rather than the president of the United States.

"James Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!" Trump tweeted.

"Now we have a new rabbit to chase down another rabbit hole," Krauthammer said.

After Trump tweeted the remark, a firestorm ensued in the press.

Krauthammer said any lasting damage from the remark is "self-inflicted."

He said that by referring to possible recordings of conversations, Trump raised a possibility that no one could have imagined.

"That sounds more like a mafia boss than a president of a free republic," he said.
