MSNBC host and NBC News correspondent Andrea Mitchell is firing back at President Trump.

In a New York Times interview last week, Trump called Mitchell "Hillary Clinton's P.R. person," arguing that she and most of the mainstream media choose what news to report based on their political agenda.

Mitchell fired back in a Politico podcast on Monday, saying that she's covered every president since Jimmy Carter, and Trump is by far the most hostile to the press.

“I have never seen anything like this where people just flat-out lie," Mitchell told host Susan Glasser. "You know, black is white and white is black, and they mislead you. It's really disconcerting to see the podium in the White House briefing room being used to mislead or misdirect or obfuscate.”

She insisted that it's the press' job is to be "adversarial," and she has not endeared herself to any presidential campaign or administration.

"Maybe he saw the Clinton press corps as some sort of a support group, but that was hardly the case," she added. "We had very little contact. We were harassing her and, you know, shouting questions at her all summer long about the private server."

Mitchell also called out the Trump administration for shutting the press out of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson's diplomatic trips to countries such as China and Russia.

"There is just an attempt, and it’s successful, to shut down not just me but The New York Times, The Washington Post, Agence France-Presse, CNN. I mean, we’re all just shut out,” Mitchell said. “You should not be flying into Beijing without a press corps. You should not be going to Moscow without the press corps. It’s wrong.”

Mitchell made headlines last week for her interview with former Obama national security adviser Susan Rice following reports that Rice sought to unmask the names of Trump associates who were under "incidental surveillance."

Dan Scavino Jr., the White House social media director, went after Mitchell, claiming her questioning of Rice was not tough enough.
