Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch paid tribute to his wife Louise at his Senate confirmation hearing.

In his opening remarks to the Judiciary Committee, the 10th Circuit appeals court judge said he could never attempt this without his wife of more than 20 years.

"The sacrifices she has made and her open and giving heart, they leave me in awe. I love you so much," he said.

He then turned and gave her a hug, as she gave him a kiss on the cheek. Gorsuch then told a funny story about their tiny apartment as newlyweds and a comment by his mother-in-law.

"As I headed out the door to work, I'll never forget her whispering to her daughter, in a voice I think intended to be just loud enough for me to hear: 'are you sure he's really a lawyer?'"
