Funny VIRAL: Elmo Told He's Being Laid Off Due to Trump Budget Cuts
A new viral video shows Elmo learning of his firing thanks to President Donald Trump's proposed budget cuts to PBS.
The What's Trending Facebook page posted the parody, which has been viewed 4 million times since Friday.
"Due to cuts in funding to PBS, our favorite furry monster is out of work. #ParodyElmo," the status reads.
The video shows the lovable "Sesame Street" character in an HR meeting and hearing that he's being laid off.
"Just like that? Elmo has been working at Sesame Street for 32 years!" Elmo responded, wondering what will happen to his health coverage due to a pre-existing condition.
The White House's recent budget blueprint "proposes to eliminate funding" for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which sends some money to PBS and NPR.
Jimmy Kimmel responded in similar fashion on his show last week with a video showing Trump on "Celebrity Apprentice" firing Big Bird.
New episodes of the longtime PBS program are now on HBO under a deal signed in 2015, with the reruns airing on PBS.
