U.S. Air Force Major John Salotti's first order of business after returning from deployment in Kuwait? Surprising his son Owen in his first-grade classroom.

On Thursday, Major Salotti and his family secretly gathered at Arrowhead Elementary School in Methacton, Pennsylvania, where Owen's class was awaiting a "mystery reader," Fox 29 reported.

Owen's teacher calmed the class and introduced their mystery reader: Major Salotti!

He walked into the room, in uniform, with a smile on his face, greeting his son, who got up and gave his dad a big hug.

As a C-130 pilot, Major Salotti has been based at Pope Air Force Base in North Carolina, Warren AFB in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and currently at Malstrom AFB in Great Falls Montana, Fox 29 reported.

His previous deployments have included Germany, Iraq, Kabul, Qatar and, most recently, Kuwait.
