McCain: Trump Should Not Have Made Serious Wiretapping Claims Via Twitter
Meghan McCain took issue with President Trump's messaging strategy, specifically his flurry of tweets in which he claimed President Barack Obama ordered the wiretapping of Trump Tower.
The "Outnumbered" co-host said the public is becoming confused about the Trump-Russia issue on both sides. She argued that if Trump really believes the wiretapping occurred and it's as serious as Watergate, then he should have made that argument directly to the American people.
"Do a sit-down interview with someone or maybe [make a statement] straight to camera. ... But the way it was executed in a tweet, followed up a half hour later by a tweet about 'The Apprentice's' ratings? That makes me take it less seriously," she argued.
McCain said Trump's communications team is losing the battle right now because of poor "political execution."
Trump himself was critical of his administration's messaging, saying on Fox & Friends last week that he would give himself a C or C+ on that issue.
According to reports, Trump's tweets Saturday morning caught the White House staff off-guard.
