A Nevada police officer got the surprise of his life during a traffic stop on a Las Vegas highway when a beer truck lost control nearby, showering him with more than 1,000 pounds of beer.

Trooper Travis Smaka, of the Nevada Highway Patrol, pulled over a car for speeding on Interstate 15 in Las Vegas, and walked up to the passenger-side window.

Smaka told KSNV that as he asked the occupants whether they had anything to drink recently, he heard a noise that "made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck."

A truck carrying more than 1,000 pounds of beer locked up its brakes, apparently after losing control on the interstate, sending its cargo flying off the vehicle.

Smaka and the car he had pulled over were showered with several gallons of beer, and the sound of dozens of bottles shattering can be heard across the highway.

The officer recounted the moment as a "tidal wave of beer coming at me."

Smaka said he let the automobile driver go without a ticket after they both got the unexpected hoppy shower.

Nevada State Trooper Jason Buratczuk hinted that another driver may have cut off the tractor-trailer.
