In his first speech to a joint session of Congress, President Trump underlined his mission to protect America from foreign terrorist threats.

Trump said it is not compassionate but "reckless" to allow uncontrolled entry from countries without proper vetting procedures.

"We cannot allow a beachhead of terrorism to form inside America," he said, adding that he will not allow this country to become a "sanctuary for extremists."

Trump said his administration will release new directives on improved vetting procedures and overall national security very soon.

He also said he plans to work with America's allies in the Muslim world to rid ISIS and other radical Islamic terrorist groups from the Earth.
