Amb. John Bolton said that leaked information from the White House to the media is a serious problem for the Trump administration.

The former U.N. ambassador in the George W. Bush administration said "dissident elements inside the bureaucracy" are likely to blame for several leaks, most recently the disclosure of conversations between former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn and a Russian diplomat.

"It's going to be a serious problem until you overcome it by performance," he said.

One way for President Trump to combat leaked information is to restrict the number of people he and his aides talk to, Bolton said, citing former President Richard Nixon's handling of foreign policy with China.

He said Trump's administration may be plagued by such leaks from ideological opponents within the federal bureaucracy until "hundreds" of sub-cabinet appointments are made and make their way through Senate confirmation.
