Friday is National Wear Red Day, which is part of the American Heart Association's American Heart Month. The effort is meant to raise awareness for women's cardiovascular issues.

The organization stresses that heart disease and stroke cause 1 in 3 deaths among women each year, killing approximately one woman every 80 seconds. Supporters are encouraged to post red selfies on social media using #GoRedWearRed.
