At the 74th annual Golden Globes last night, Meryl Streep went on a long, impassioned rant against President-elect Donald Trump during her acceptance speech for the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement.

Streep, an outspoken supporter of Hillary Clinton, slammed what she called Trump's "instinct to humiliate."

"The person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter, someone he outranked in privilege, power and the capacity to fight back,” Streep said. “It kind of broke my heart when I saw it and I still can’t get it out of my head, because it wasn’t in a movie, it was real life."

“Disrespect invites disrespect, violence incites violence,” she continued. “When the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose.”

The 19-time Academy Award nominee and three-time winner called on the press to hold the president-elect accountable "for every outrage."
