According to a new declassified report from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, Russian President Vladimir Putin directly ordered Russian meddling in the U.S. presidential election.

The report says that the Russian government had a "clear preference" for President-elect Donald Trump, and sought to "denigrate" Hillary Clinton.

"We assess Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an influence campaign in 2016 aimed at the U.S. presidential election," the report said.

"Russia's goals were to undermine public faith in the U.S. democratic process, denigrate Secretary Clinton, and harm her electability and potential presidency. We further assess Putin and the Russian government developed a clear preference for President-elect Trump."

It cites a “new unclassified report,” verifying the Kremlin’s direct involvement, though no additional information has been released at this time.
