Syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer slammed the United States' decision to abstain during a United Nations vote condemning settlements in the West Bank, saying the country has "joined the jackals."

As reported:

The measure was adopted with 14 votes in favor, to a round of applause, after U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power abstained.

It is the first resolution the Security Council has adopted on Israel and the Palestinians in nearly eight years.

Krauthammer said the US effectively "joined the jackals at the UN" by not voting against the resolution.

He called the resolution "appalling" and clarified that it meant that any Jewish person living in the "Jewish Quarter" of Jerusalem is "illegal... and breaking international law."

The resolution is explicit in including both Israeli-occupied territories and east Jerusalem, he said.
