Syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer said Tuesday that the overall concern regarding Russian influence in American affairs, like the election, is real.

But, he said the notion that the Kremlin "gave" the election to President-elect Donald Trump is "absurd."

The intelligence agencies are split, and there is no way to discern intent, he said.

Krauthammer said President Obama was not as active as he should have been against Russian interference during his term:

"The passivity of Barack Obama in the face of this is simply staggering," he said, adding that Obama "didn't want to lose influence with Russia in Syria."

"The president let go at a time where he could have done something" about Russia's actions that may have hurt America.
