It was a whale of a catch, except the whale was actually a fish!

A North Carolina man recently caught a 112-pound catfish in the Cape Fear River.

Riahn Brewington told local ABC affiliate WWAY he went fishing the day before Thanksgiving and was surprised to reel in the big catch.

"I didn't realize how big he was until I actually got my hands underneath him," he said.

As large as the fish was, the 112-pound weight was actually five pounds less than the state record of 117, set early this year by Landon Evans, of Benson, N.C.
