Meghan McCain: Gen. Mattis 'Exactly What We Need' After 'Feckless' Obama Policies
Meghan McCain expressed high praise for President-elect Donald Trump's choice of former Marine Corps. Gen. James Mattis (Ret.) to be the next Defense Secretary.
Trump made the surprise announcement last night in Ohio, telling the crowd at his "Thank You Tour" address that "Mad Dog Mattis" will begin a "major national effort to rebuild our badly-depleted military" and destroy ISIS.
Since federal law requires military personnel to be retired for at least seven years before working in the government, Mattis will need a waiver from Congress. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) quickly announced she would oppose such a waiver.
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said he was "pleased" with the choice, calling Mattis "without a doubt one of the finest military officers of his generation and an extraordinary leader who inspires a rare and special admiration of his troops."
On "Outnumbered" today, Meghan McCain echoed her father's sentiments, calling Mattis a "beloved" figure in the U.S. military. She highlighted the many legendary quotes by Gen. Mattis, picking out this one as her favorite:
"Find the enemy that wants to end this experiment (in American democracy) and kill every one of them until they’re so sick of the killing that they leave us and our freedoms intact," Mattis once said.
McCain called it Trump's "best" move so far and a clear indication that the country will move away from the "feckless" foreign policy of the last eight years.
"I'm eating crow today. I could not be more thrilled. ... I will lay in front of Kirsten Gillibrand's car with my Marine brother, who started crying, if she tries to stop this," said McCain.
