On "Special Report" tonight, Charles Krauthammer warned "sanctuary city" mayors against defying President-elect Donald Trump.

Trump has vowed to withhold federal funding from cities that shield illegal immigrants from possible deportation, and Krauthammer believes that Trump has legitimate federal authority to do so.

He argued that sanctuary cities should not be allowed in the first place, but they have been tolerated by Democrats, and now the issue is coming to a head.

"I think Trump would be within his rights to withhold funds, and he should," Krauthammer said. "And the Democrats are making a big bet - and a mistaken one - if they decide that they're going to defy the federal government and what seems to be common sense: Control your borders."
