During a campaign event today in Miami, Donald Trump reacted to the ambush-style attacks in Des Moines that claimed the lives of two police officers who were sitting in their patrol cars.

"An attack on our police is an attack on all of us," Trump said. "Law enforcement is the line separating civilization from total chaos."

He noted that firearm-related police deaths are up 48 percent this year, citing the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.

He added that there have been 14 ambush-style attacks on officers so far this year.

"What it is is a lack of respect for our nation, it's a lack of respect for our leadership," Trump said, asserting that he's the "law and order candidate" in this election.

"To all the great men and women of law enforcement, I want you to know, we're with you, we support and we will stand by you."
