Karl Rove joined Brit Hume on "On The Record" tonight to preview the second presidential debate, which airs Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on Fox News Channel.

He said it's going to be a "big, big night" for both candidates, particularly Trump, who had a bad first debate followed by several days of "self-inflicted wounds" like his feud with a former Miss Universe.

"Sunday night is going to be really critical for Trump to have a good debate night where people say either he won or he came close to winning and held his own and projected an image that causes his supporters to say, 'We're moving forward and we're getting enthusiastic,'" Rove said.
