GOOD NEWS Mother of First Navy SEAL Killed In Iraq Honors Fellow ‘Gold Star’ Families
Marc Alan Lee was the first US Navy SEAL to be killed in Iraq.
In honor of Gold Star Mothers’ Day, Lee’s mother, Debbie, spoke with Abby Huntsman about the importance of highlighting hers and other Gold Star families' sacrifices made in order to keep us safe.
Marc Lee was killed while “drawing attention away from fellow SEALs,” his mother said.
Lee was killed in Ramadi in 2006 after opening fire to provide cover for the rest of his team after the unit came under surprise attack from insurgents, according to National Public Radio.
We want “to let all other Gold Star families… know we will never forget the sacrifices their loved ones have made,” Debbie Lee said on Fox & Friends.
“We set aside [today] as a nation to honor those mothers who birthed amazing heroes who gave their lives for this country.”
“[Marc] stood out in line of direct fire three times that day …to protect his fellow SEALs,” she recalled.
“I was so blessed to be his mother. It was a gift to have him for 28 years.”
Regarding the upcoming election, Lee said it was “important for military families to know we will have a Commander-in-Chief who has the back of our troops…and a V.A. that is strong.”
