Authorities in Massachusetts and New York City are investigating the recent murders of two young female joggers.

The first murder occurred in Howard Beach, an area of Queens, where a jogger was raped and strangled in a remote area of federal parkland.

Vetrano's grief-stricken mother lashed out at the killer.

"The whole world knows what a pathetic, puny, weak piece of filth you are," Cathy Vetrano said.

Authorities said Vetrano put up a ferocious fight before succumbing to her killer.

Days later, a New York City woman was killed while jogging near her mother's home in Massachusetts.

Marcotte's clothes were missing and her body was burned when police found her.

The murder of Marcotte, who worked for Google in NYC, was the first in the town in nearly 30 years, police said.

Though the cases have similarities, a Massachusetts D.A. said there was no evidence connecting the two murders.

Police have not released a suspect in either case.
