The Dallas Police Department received a touching gift from New York and New Jersey police: the American flag that was flown at the World Trade Center after the shooting of five Dallas police officers last month.

The department posted photos to their Facebook page, thanking the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for the flag and a heartfelt letter of condolence.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Port Authority Police Department, which patrols the bridges and tunnels between the two states, sent a certificate along with the flag.

"The Flag of the United States of America accompanying this certificate was proudly flown over the World Trade Center site on July 14, 2016," the certificate reads.
