Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke says Donald Trump is the "steadfast leader our nation needs."

Clarke said at the Republican National Convention that Trump has spoken passionately to him about his belief in the U.S. justice system, "and he speaks to the values that are at the foundation of our social contract."

"Throughout his campaign and over many years before, he has consistently and constantly raised his voice not only in defense of the character of the American police officer, but the need for all people to feel they are being treated fairly and respectfully by law enforcement."

He said that Trump understands the need for a justice system in which no one, not "even Hillary Clinton...can claim privilege above the law."

Clarke also drew raucous applause when he said that he wanted to make it clear that "Blue Lives Matter in America."
