Iraqi-American reporter and activist Steven Nabil and his wife were preparing to board a flight from Istanbul to New York City when terrorists attacked Ataturk Airport.

Nabil documented their terrifying experience on Twitter, revealing that he and his wife came "face-to-face" with one of the gunmen.

He revealed that they hid in a closer in a hair salon for 45 minutes, with shooting and explosions happening right outside the store.

The attack claimed the lives of at least 41 people, wounding more than 200 others.
