Hemmer Investigates: How'd Medical Mistakes Become the #3 Cause of Death?
Don't miss the Fox News Reporting special, "Beware! Danger at the Doctor," on Saturday night at 8:00 ET and Sunday night at 9:00 ET on Fox News Channel.
Ask anyone what they fear most and you’ll likely hear things like flying on a plane, a terror attack or maybe people texting while driving.
But imagine someone saying that they're afraid of the doctor or going into a hospital...
Indeed, medical mistakes are now said to be the third leading cause of death in America. Yes, the Number Three killer in the country, at the hands of the very doctors and medical experts trained to keep you healthy.
How could that be? Why does it continue to happen with some of the best medical care in the world? It’s even happening to doctors, as well as to their patients.
Bill Hemmer investigates this weekend in a Fox News Reporting special that includes a compelling sit-down with Melissa Rivers.
Her mother, beloved comedian Joan Rivers, died suddenly in Sept. 2014 at age 81 after complications from a minor throat procedure.
Rivers' family filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against the outpatient clinic and it was settled out of court, with doctors taking responsibility for the tragic turn of events.
She said that technological advancements that allow so-called in-and-out medical procedures must be safe.
"If you're not safe, if you're not OK, then all of the advances don't mean s***," Rivers said.
