'I Did It for ISIS': Orlando Terrorist Spoke to News Station During Attack
It has now emerged that Omar Mateen called a local TV station during the mass shooting at a gay nightclub, and said he was doing it for ISIS.
"It's me. I am the shooter," he reportedly told overnight producer Matthew Gentili at News 13 in Orlando.
The producer said Mateen then started speaking quickly and fluently in Arabic. Gentili pleaded with him to use English.
Mateen then reportedly responded: "I did it for ISIS. I did it for the Islamic State."
Mateen reportedly told a 911 dispatcher that he was "doing this for the leader of ISIS" close to the time of the call to News 13, about an hour after the massacre began, at approximately 2:45 a.m.
