Tiska the bald eagle, who was the oldest resident at the Alaska Zoo in Anchorage, has passed away.

The zoo posted a heartfelt message on Facebook:

We are very sad to announce the passing of our oldest zoo resident, Tiska the bald eagle. Tiska arrived at the zoo in 1973 and has been a joy to countless zoo staff, volunteers and visitors for over four decades. Rest in peace, Tiska. We will all miss you.

Found only in North America, bald eagles are more abundant in Alaska than anywhere else in the United States. In the wild, their life expectancy is approximately 50 years.

RIP, Tiska.
