Huckabee: Cruz Should Sue Nat'l Enquirer If Story About Affairs Isn't True
Mike Huckabee said this morning that Donald Trump and Ted Cruz need to get back to talking about issues that voters care about.
But he called on Sen. Cruz to file a lawsuit against the National Enquirer if the story about his "five secret mistresses" is indeed untrue.
"If Ted Cruz wants to really fight this, I hope he sues the National Enquirer. I mean, look at it. After we saw what happened to Gawker with Hulk Hogan, I think he has a terrific opportunity to file the lawsuit. That's the way to fight some of this stuff," said Huckabee.
Cruz responded Friday by calling the story tabloid "garbage" and blaming Trump's "henchmen" for it, naming Roger Stone specifically.
"It is complete and utter lies. It is a tabloid smear, and it is a smear that has come from Donald Trump and his henchmen," Cruz said to reporters.
Trump has denied having anything to do with the article, saying it's "disgraceful" for Cruz to make such an accusation.
Huckabee said that the attacks by Trump and Cruz, which has involved their wives, are the "worst of politics." But he emphasized that the smears will be far worse in a general election battle with Hillary Clinton.
"Anybody who doesn't think so has never really been in the ring with her," said the former Arkansas governor.
