Rev. Franklin Graham: Why I'm Leaving the GOP
Influential evangelist Rev. Franklin Graham announced this week he was quitting the GOP and declaring himself independent.
“I have no hope in the Republican Party, the Democratic Party or Tea Party to do what is best for America," the son of Rev. Billy Graham wrote on Facebook.
Last night, he went "On The Record" to explain his decision.
Graham said he's "so disappointed with the leadership of both parties."
He said that next year he'll begin a nationwide prayer tour that will take him to every state capitol in the Union, and he felt it would be best not to be aligned with any party.
“If I’m going to stand there and ask people to pray for this country, I don’t want people to think ‘he’s just doing this for the Republicans,’” Graham said.
"I'm not doing this for the Republican party. I'm doing this really for our country to get people to begin to pray for our nation."
