Police Officer Reunites Marine With Beloved Combat Dog

When Charlotte, a Houston Police horse, was fatally struck by a car last week, her accompanying patrol officer did a remarkable thing.

He got down on the street with her and held her as she took her final breaths. And the image of that powerful moment is quickly spreading.

The Animal Justice League shared the above photo on Facebook, praising Officer D. Herrejon “for loving his partner and friend until the end.”

“We admire the heart and strength of this officer,” the post stated.

“The relationship with those animals and their person is an incredible thing.”

Police say Charlotte was a trusted patrol horse in Houston for four years.

“She loved her job and was always ready to go to work putting bad guys in jail or giving nuzzles to children,” they wrote.

The driver in the accident is being investigated, but “is not believed to be at-fault,” they added.

The department has expressed gratitude for the public’s extraordinary support after Charlotte’s death. Watch their special thank-you, below.
