A Florida Sheriff's message to citizens that they're the first line of defense against terrorists has gone viral.

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said in the video that citizens should prepare for the possibility that a terrorist attack might happen "right here in our own back yard."

The video posted to the Sheriff's Office's Facebook page has been watched 2.7 million times.

Ivey said on "Fox & Friends" that the video was a call to attention for his citizens that they may be required act in a terrorism scenario.

"The best law enforcement agencies in the country have response times in minutes, and a violent criminal can take your life in seconds," Ivey said, echoing his video address.

"It's a known fact the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.

"So, we're looking for our citizens to either have the ability to eliminate the threat or at the very least stall it until the cavalry can arrive."
