The police officer who was killed during Friday’s shooting standoff at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs has been identified as Garrett Swasey.

Swasey, 44, was married and had two young children. He had been with the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs police department for six years.

Swasey was on duty at the campus and responded to the initial reports of an active shooter at the offices of Planned Parenthood.

Originally from Boston, Swasey moved to Colorado Springs in the early 90s to train at the Olympic Training Center as an ice dancer before retiring and moving into law enforcement.

Swasey was an Elder who led various teams and played guitar at his nondenominational church, Hope Chapel.

A vigil will be held Saturday, according to a Facebook memorial page. A crowdfunding memorial page has been set up to start an education fund for his two children.
