O'Reilly Confronts Trump on Retweeting Inaccurate Stats About Black Murder Rate

The left is attempting to brand Donald Trump - and by association, the Republican Party - as racist, Dana Perino said on "The O'Reilly Factor" tonight.

She explained that the GOP starts in a "credibility deficit" on issues of race, so candidates must work their way up just to get to neutral.

"If you give them ammunition with which to hit you, it's hard then to crawl up out of that hole and get to neutral," Perino said.

O'Reilly pointed out that unlike other politicians, Trump does not care, which is why many people find him to be the appealing "anti-politician."

Perino agreed and chalked much of Trump's popularity up to Americans' dissatisfaction with President Obama.

"I think the incompetence and the lack of leadership and a feeling across America like, 'What are you doing? What happened to our country?'" Perino said. "And they see someone like Trump, who is the opposite, they tend to want to follow it."

"I think that a lot of people who thought that he could never win the nomination are coming to the realization that he actually could."
