Police released a dash cam video Tuesday evening that shows a white Chicago police officer shooting a black 17-year-old 16 times in October 2014.

Officer Jason Van Dyke, a 14-year veteran, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Laquan McDonald.

Van Dyke and other officers were responding to a call of an armed man attempting to break into cars on the city’s southwest side.

Police say McDonald, who was found with PCP in his system at the time of his death, was behaving erratically and was refusing to listen to police commands to drop a knife he was holding.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and community leaders called for calm during a meeting on Monday as emotions were riding high over the controversial shooting.
