I don't remember Starbucks ever being a Christian company, do you? A Santa, a snowflake, some holly, a polar bear, some jingle bells or plain red cup don’t define Christmas for me as a Christian. My relationship with Jesus does. So, I will joyfully sip on my Starbucks coffee, in a plain red cup, and instead of complaining about the lack of decorations, I will lovingly share the good news of Jesus Christ with friends and co-workers or anyone who's willing to engage in conversation. “The View” co-host Candace Cameron Bure has come to Starbucks’ defense in what some are calling a “war on Christmas.”
The outspoken Christian surprised some by rejecting claims that suggest Starbucks was shunning Christmas by changing the design of its annual holiday season coffee cup to a minimalist red and green display.
Previous designs had featured snowflakes and Christmas tree ornaments.
“Starbucks War on Christmas? It’s a red cup, folks,” Bure wrote on Instagram Monday.
“Until Starbucks puts a baby Jesus or nativity scene on the cup while saying Merry Christmas, then pulls it because they say it’s offensive, let’s talk,” she added. “I don’t remember Starbucks ever being a Christian company, do you?”
Bure joins the growing number of celebrities commenting on the cup design that has gone viral.
Earlier this week, Donald Trump suggested to a crowd in Illinois that consumers could start boycotting Starbucks over the divisive new development.
Dunkin’ Donuts also made headlines today for its release of new winter holiday cups, in contrast printed with a festive wreath and the word “Joy.”
Starbucks has told Fox News that its plain red design is not meant to offend anyone, but to serve as a blank slate where customers can create their own holiday story.
