A Texas man claims a judge ordered him to marry his girlfriend or go to jail.

Josten Bundy was in court for fighting with his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend when the judge handed down the bizarre sentence.

Bundy explained to KLTV that he got in a fight with Elizabeth Jaynes’ ex-boyfriend because he had been saying disrespectful things to her.

Court transcripts reveal that Judge Randall Rogers asked Bundy whether Jaynes was “worth it," and Bundy told Rogers that he probably would have done the same thing if he heard any man speak to a woman like that.

That’s when the judge asked Bundy if he was married to Jaynes. He then ordered Bundy to marry his girlfriend within 30 days as part of his probation – or spend 15 days in jail.

Bundy told KLTV that he would have taken the 15 days in jail, but Rogers wouldn’t let him call his job to let them know that he'd be out. Instead, Bundy and Jaynes tied the knot at a courthouse with a justice of peace.

Bundy and Jaynes say that they didn’t have the time or funds to get married the way they had planned. The time constraint also kept family members – like Bundy’s dad and sisters – from attending the big day.

The newlyweds hope to have a bigger wedding in the future when they can afford it.
