A Maryland father accidentally left his 6-month-old son in his car when he boarded a train to work yesterday, authorities say.

The man called his in-laws when he realized that he had accidentally left the child in his car, which was parked at Forest Glen Metro Station in Silver Spring.

The child’s grandmother called 911, telling the dispatcher, “We’re on our way, our son-in-law accidentally left the baby in the back of the car.”

Firefighters arrived at the scene, smashing in the car’s windows to save the little boy, who was conscious and breathing when he was rescued. Metro officials said that the 6-month-old child had a very high body temperature, and he was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Authorities say that the little boy may have been in the hot car from 7:30 a.m. until after 10 a.m.

Officials will determine whether charges will be filed against the child's father.
