A Good Samaritan who pulled a 4-year-old girl from the bottom of a Colorado lake is thanking God for putting him in the right place at the right time.

Angelo Mondragan said it’s a miracle that he was able to save Lali. He explained that he was waist-deep in the lake when he felt a fleshy, foreign object brush up against him. He said that divine intervention prompted him to investigate what was underwater. He kicked the object, and little toes floated to the lake’s surface.

That’s when Mondragan sprang into action, pulling the child from the lake and carrying her to shore. She was unconscious, not breathing and blue around the lips. Two nurses on the beach performed CPR on Lali, who was then taken to the hospital.

“Thank God the right people were on the beach, and thank God for putting me in the right place at the right time,” Mondragan said.

Lali’s mom, Emma, told Elisabeth Hasselbeck, “I thank God he was there […] it’s truly a miracle.”

Lali was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the near-drowning. The incident has inspired Mondragan to start collecting life vests for families.
